New Look! and more!

Well, I as mentioned in my previous post I have joined a blog hop. After joining I thought that this would be a great time to give my blog makeover! What do you all think?? I would love to hear your thoughts!!

Yesterday, my daughter and I made her a new nightgown (with the fabric used, it could be a nice simple dress as well). I had looked all over for one and never had any luck so we created one. She had fun helping and it was a quick project, from start to finish it took 2 hours :)

I love this on her and the fabric is so soft BUT the color bleeds, so my next question to all of you is what do you do to set the color in the fabric. I would really not like everything to be blue. (I also have this fabric in pink and yellow for more of these for my nieces and I am sure their moms would not like me too much if all their laundry changed colors!)

So, I have been working on some projects, I will give a sneak peak but will have to elaborate later!

it will be scrappy, but this one was a practice run!

It has been a busy productive weekend and the last thing that was completed was my husbands website. What do you all think??

Holidays, kids, projects, oh my!

A week away from September already! It has been a crazy but good summer! We have been fortunate enough to have a beautiful summer this year, not too cold or hot, just a nice balance.

For a week we joined some very good friends of ours at their lake house in B.C. It was a wonderful time, the weather was hot, the beach was beautiful, meals were tasty and the kids had a great time. While we were there, some shopping in quilt shops was a must and I found some lovely items.

This is a placemat kit I picked up. The picture is in the top right corner. I just love these fabrics!!

And then I found this adorable pattern for a growth chart and some Best Press starch!

There were so many other goodies that I found and wanted to bring home, but I was a good girl :)

Projects, there have been a few that I have been busy with, and now a few more on the go.

I made this wedding cake for some friends of mine. They got married at the beginning of July! The bride had given me some roses, but I still had to hand craft a good amount to cover this cake. It was a beautiful cake, and I had fun making this one!!

I also participated in a siggy block swap hosted by Julie at Jaybird Quilts. I had so much fun participating in this swap. These are the 101 blocks that I mailed out, to be sorted. I have received back my selection of blocks, all are different and absolutely gorgeous!

I made these decorative album covers for my cousins. My husband took all of their wedding pictures, and I must say they are amazing!! It is great to be married to a photographer!! But we thought it would be nice to have a stunning album for the stunning pictures. So these are what I made!

I also signed up for needle case swap hosted by Michele at the Quilting Gallery. I sent the needle case I made to my partner in Holland. This is what it looked like when I was finished!

I am getting ready to make a few nightgowns and some other projects that are floating around in my mind, and then participate in a few quilt-alongs!!

Now, all of these intentions are good, but it will be dependent on my wonderful children. They seem to like all of my attention :)

Happy Birthday Canada!!

Wishing all my Canadian friends and family a happy Canada Day!Hope that everyone is safe during all of the fun festivities that are being held today! And best of all we have nice weather today :D

Do not think I am going to get much sewing done today as I am planning on taking the kids out to enjoy some fun!!

What a great feeling!!

The other day I posted I had won a prize from Rjr fabrics for a contest in making a 3D fabric flower. Well I am so happy to say that I had asked Rjr if they would so kindly send the beautiful bag to another lady who had participated in the challenge.

I had read that Mary's husband had been in the ICU for a bit. Although he is doing much better, I know that times like that are draining, scary and overwhelming. I also know that sometimes, unexpected things can bring a big smile and make someones day. And this is what I had hoped would happen!!

Glad you have received the bag already Mary, enjoy :)

I have to admit, giving this to Mary has truly made my day!! There are times when winning is not in the receiving, but in the giving, and this is truly one of those moments :) What a GREAT feeling!!

Where did June go?

Seriously we are already at the end of June!! Between graduations, year end concerts, weddings, yard work, nice weather and being a busy mom the month has just zoomed by!!!

Despite of how busy things have been around here, I have still managed to get quite a bit accomplished :)

First of all, a bit of an update from my last post. The contest that I entered, I won!! I was very excited to have as many votes as I did! When my package arrived from Rjr, I was so excited and surprised. A beautiful Fat Quarter bundle of their Summer Solstice line!! Oh it is so pretty! I love all the bright colors! Not sure what will be created yet with these beauties but I know I will have fun using them!!

Awhile back I joined a quilting forum called the Quilting Board. I love this Forum, all the people are so nice and very helpful. At this forum I joined in on a siggy block swap. There were 174 participants in this swap and people from all over the world. I thought that this would be so much fun and I was correct!! I am looking forward to getting my package back with all of the different blocks!!

Then for fathers day, the kids and I got creative and made a fathers day gift! The kids had so much fun and they thought it was neat coloring on a t-shirt (not usually allowed here as they think it is great coloring on everything!). Each of the kids also made a personalized fathers day card that they each gave to daddy Fathers Day morning. They were so excited!!!

This is the shirt that we made! Just wish I had remembered to add the date to this for a keepsake later on...oh well!

Rjr fabrics on their Facebook page held another contest. The rules for this one was it had to be a 3D flower using Rjr Fabrics of your choice. As soon as I read the rules I knew what I was going to attemp...I really wanted to make a 3D rose.

After 1 day of voting the results were in, and the verdict was.....I won!!!!!! The prize that came along with this contest was this fabulous bag!! With this prize I decided to do something special with it, but you all will have to wait to hear about that for a wee bit so no surprises will be ruined!

I have also managed to get siggy blocks completed and mailed for another siggy block swap, got a bit more done on my hubby's quilt (yup still tackling that one) and have a few things in the beginning stages to start working on, and a few ideas floating around of a few things I would like to make.

As you can see, June has been busy but productive! It has been great to cross off some things from that "to do" list :)

Now back to work to finish up a few more things!

Wow what craziness!!!

So it has been a few weeks since my last blog post! I am such a bad blogging buddy! Hopefully things are back on track and I can keep things up dated!

Where to begin! Well I have been busy trying to get hubbys quilt done...decided to just do Sashiko on it, and then the binding. I do have the sashiko patterns picked out and how I will position things so now it is to just sit down and do it!

I entered a little contest on facebook with Rjr Fabrics. The contest was to use only Jinny Beyer border prints. This is what I came up with:

I really had fun with this project, I had no pattern, just a vision in my mind. I did a lot of sewing and then a fair amount of unsewing, but when all said and done I think it turned out pretty good. Now to wait and see how I did in the contest :)

In the bit of time that I was reading through blogs I entered in for a give away that Jen from ReannaLily Designs was hosting (this is what I entered for) and I was the lucky winner!! I can not wait to get these beautiful FQ's!! They are GORGEOUS!! What a treat it will be to have something that is not even in the stores yet!! Jen's Blog is AMAZING, you should all go and read it! Again, thanks Jen!!!

This has also been a busy month for birthdays! 2 nieces and 1 nephew all celebrated their birthday this month. For my nieces, I made each of them a tutu. They absolutely LOVED them. After the girls opened them, they put them on, and wore them pretty much for the rest of the evening!

I have also been busy making some cakes, this is the most recent cake that I have made, and it was for a 40th wedding anniversary!

I have also been creating blocks for 2 different Siggy Block swaps...one there are 174 blocks, and the other one there is 101 blocks. For the swap with the 174 blocks, I have all the pieces cut out, and now to just sew, sign, and square up. The swap with 101 blocks...well I have the fabric, so lots to do still!

Along with all of that being done, I had 3 sick kidlets (3 under the age of 3 I may add). Needless to say, things around here have been crazy!! Here was my little man, he was so sick, he fell asleep 2 hours after waking up in the morning. This is when he was watching his all time favorite movie "Cars". He tries hard to miss naps and NEVER sleeps during that movie. Poor little guy!!

Well, I think that is everything that has been going on! I am hoping that the craziness will slow down for awhile now. I am going to be focusing on getting some projects all finished and start on some new ones!!

A bit of this and a bit of that...

It has been rather crazy around here lately and as a result, I have not blogged. So now I get to play catch up! There are a few things that I am so excited to share and talk about oh where should I begin.

Well, I had finally made a big decision to take on a large project for me. I am going to make a "Dear Jane" quilt. I ordered the book and it arrived a few days ago. Since it arrived, I have been flipping through all of the pages and admiring all the work that went into that quilt in 1863! This is the book that I bought. Now comes the fun of finding the fabrics for this amazing quilt! I did however, find the background color. I picked out an antique white color, and for me this is absolutely perfect!!! Now to start getting the colors and start this enormous project!!

I also have finally started to work on my Meadow Breeze BOM. I have managed to trace out all the applique pieces. Now to cut them out, fuse to fabric, attach to the blocks (which I still need to cut and sew) and stitch the applique! But at least I have gotten something done on it!!

I have also made another Tutu, this one for my daughter. The first one she modeled went to someone and she was sad it was not hers! This one I loved the colors, but I did not use Tulle for it and it frays. But here is her tutu:

And this is her wearing her tutu, after the pictures were taken she was spinning around and telling me that she is a ballerina! Oh she is so cute!!

On the weekend, I went to a local fabric shop to buy some more tulle. I have couple of more tutu's to make. My nieces will love them for their upcoming birthdays! And I lucked out as everything was 40% off...woohoo! As I admired the beautiful fabrics, and notions I made a decision and bought me a new little gadget. I bought the Olfa Rotary Circle Cutter! I think I am going to have lots of fun with this one. I have these visions bouncing around in my head of projects I want to make using this tool. How wonderful to be able to cut out circles quickly :)

Well that is enough for now, time to get my butt off the couch and go and baste my hubby's quilt. I really really need to get that done!
