A bit of this and a bit of that...

It has been rather crazy around here lately and as a result, I have not blogged. So now I get to play catch up! There are a few things that I am so excited to share and talk about oh where should I begin.

Well, I had finally made a big decision to take on a large project for me. I am going to make a "Dear Jane" quilt. I ordered the book and it arrived a few days ago. Since it arrived, I have been flipping through all of the pages and admiring all the work that went into that quilt in 1863! This is the book that I bought. Now comes the fun of finding the fabrics for this amazing quilt! I did however, find the background color. I picked out an antique white color, and for me this is absolutely perfect!!! Now to start getting the colors and start this enormous project!!

I also have finally started to work on my Meadow Breeze BOM. I have managed to trace out all the applique pieces. Now to cut them out, fuse to fabric, attach to the blocks (which I still need to cut and sew) and stitch the applique! But at least I have gotten something done on it!!

I have also made another Tutu, this one for my daughter. The first one she modeled went to someone and she was sad it was not hers! This one I loved the colors, but I did not use Tulle for it and it frays. But here is her tutu:

And this is her wearing her tutu, after the pictures were taken she was spinning around and telling me that she is a ballerina! Oh she is so cute!!

On the weekend, I went to a local fabric shop to buy some more tulle. I have couple of more tutu's to make. My nieces will love them for their upcoming birthdays! And I lucked out as everything was 40% off...woohoo! As I admired the beautiful fabrics, and notions I made a decision and bought me a new little gadget. I bought the Olfa Rotary Circle Cutter! I think I am going to have lots of fun with this one. I have these visions bouncing around in my head of projects I want to make using this tool. How wonderful to be able to cut out circles quickly :)

Well that is enough for now, time to get my butt off the couch and go and baste my hubby's quilt. I really really need to get that done!

Getting things done...woohoo

One step at a time I am getting things done!! Kaynes quilt, all the applique is done, now to quilt and bind. Have made one tutu for demo purposes which turned out great, and have made another one! (only a few more to go, for now anyway).

That does not seem like a lot to have accomplished, but in my house that is a lot....woohooo!! Now to continue focusing on that to do list and try to get it even shorter..and that may work, if I would stop adding projects to it :)

Now for some other exciting news. You should all hop over to A Quilty Kind of Girl Designs. Bradie Sparrow is having a great give away! She is giving away a Make Life Layer Cake...how exciting is that! And while you are there, today she posted her Tuesday Tutorial...using Mistyfuse to baste large quilts to be quilted. Love this idea and I can not wait to get my hands on some of this wonderful stuff :)

Back to that to do list now, lets see what else I can get done!

First Tutu!!

So one of the things on my to do list was to make some Tutu's. There are a few little girls that are in the family that like to look pretty, dress up, and are in dance. What a perfect little item for them. I decided to do a test run and see how it would turn out, and I must admit I am very proud of how it looks!

My daughter, Kaylee, is the model for me. She had fun posing for the camera :)

here is a bit of a close up:

Now that the first one is made, off to make a few more for the family and some to have for sale... I am so excited and having tons of fun!!

Kaylee and her pillow!!

Today, Kaylee and I worked on her special project, a Dora pillow. She was very excited to be doing some sewing and to be using mommy's sewing machine. I think this little girl was in heaven!! One day, when I have a sewing room, I think it better be rather large as I have a feeling there will be a few sewing machines in that room :)

So, this is both sides of the pillow and they are squared up and ready to be pinned together.

Here is Kaylee pinning the 2 sides of the pillow together. She did really well at this and did not poke her fingers at all! She is a quick learner and did most with very little help.

Kaylee sewing the pillow together. She was sitting on my knee, and I controlled the foot pedal. She guided most of the pillow with just a bit of help! I think she is a natural!! :)

She is very proud of herself!!

Here she is ironing the pillow! I was standing right beside her and we also had a very good talk about the iron being really hot! She did very well at this and kept her hands where they were safe! I am so proud of her!!

Stuffing the pillow! Kaylee had lots of fun with this!

Hand stitching the opening closed. I would put the needle in and pull it out a bit and Kaylee would do the rest!

More of us hand stitching the pillow closed!

And Kaylee showing off the finished product! She is one very proud girl!!

Since the pillow was finished she has proudly shown the family what she made, and has not let it of her sight or arms for that matter! Tonight in bed, she is sleeping with her Dora pillow!

I am so proud of Kaylee and happy that she loves her very first project!!

Some quality girl time!

I am planning on some good quality girl time with my daughter Kaylee, she is 2 1/2 and LOVES to help mommy sew. We did get her a little sewing machine for Christmas that she was very excited about and sadly it does not work :(

Anyway, the other day I was out and found a pillow panel that id perfect for her...it is Dora, she LOVES Dora. So, I thought that her and I would take a wee bit of time and make her this pillow...I will let her help pin, guide the fabric, and stuff the pillow. I am sure she is going to love this little project. I am so happy that she wants to sew with me.

Kayne will have to take her twin brother and have some boy time so he too feels important!

I will post pics of our fun :)

Almost done!

Well, I have diligently been working on my husbands quilt, and I am happy to say that I have only 8 more pieces to applique stitch, and then the quilting and Sashiko! I am so excited about that!! My husband, Kayne, has been ever so patient in waiting for his quilt! I can not wait for it to be finished and be able to give it to him!!

A very good friend of mine, Bradie Sparrow, is having a give away on her blog, "A Quilty Kind of Girl" Her give away is for some Mistyfuse. This stuff looks fantastic, and I am looking forward to trying this out! May just try it on Kayne's quilt for basting it!

I am going to rest the rest of this evening, had a local quilt guild meeting earlier and found a few books in our library that I am going to go and browse, learn and get some more inspiration from. Hmmm, wonder how many more things I will want to add to my to do list, or "I would love to try that list" :)

My package arrived, my package arrived!!!

A package that I have been waiting for, for awhile, finally arrived today and I am so very very excited. Here is a bit about this package!

Awhile back, RJR Fabrics hosted a Robyn Pandolph Challenge. The rules were to make a 10" block, minimum of 6 different Robyn Pandolph fabrics for RJR prints. I used the Canadian Cottage collection.

This is the block that I entered in to the contest:

This angle of the block shows that the butterflies are 3-dimensional.
After a couple of weeks of waiting for all the voting, I was notified that I was the lucky winner of the contest!! What a fabulous prize! A Fat Quarter Bundle of Robyn Pandolph's collection "Beach House". Oh this is just beautiful!!
Here is the Bundle with the charm pack.
And look at that beautiful card that was included, saying congratulations and they are looking forward to see what I create with these fabulous prints!!

I am so excited, I can not wait to start creating with these!!

If you are not already friends with RJR Fabrics on Facebook, you really should be! They have beautiful fabrics, great communication and more contests planned!!

THANK YOU RJR FABRICS!!!!!!!!!

No sewing...but....

I have been very busy! Today did spring yard clean up, had an appointment with someone for a wedding cake, and decorated an Easter cake. It was a crazy day!!

Seeing that I have all the baking and decorating time, I am thinking that tomorrow will be a sewing day for me :)

I really need a sewing day so I can try to get caught up...lol
